Reading between the lines

I like a good page turner when I read a book; something that helps me to think or make my own discovery about the characters and circumstances I read about. When this happens I almost always find that I am on the same wavelength as the writer.

Reading between the lines is to anticipate rather than explicitly state something. It takes a lot of creativity and ability to write in this way. When I enlisted 'paid' proof readers and editors to read my book, I found that getting the right person was paramount because they needed to understand the story and my culture. I learnt the hard way after one of my proof readers practically sabotaged my work simply because they didn't understand my story!

When I started out as a new author, I was enthusiastic and a little naïve because I believed that everyone needed to buy my book. I soon found out, however, that you have to pitch your book to a particular audience and write to them personally. When you write in this way your reader will feel as though you understand them; they can identify with your story. Journey to Wholeness is a autobiography, self-help, personal growth and success story, all rolled into one. It was great when I received a review of my book from another part of the world. She told me how much my book had helped her and how it had changed her life.
